I want to be very clear, I am not a fan of The Secret. I also feel very strongly that it is homogenised Buddhism. It also is heavily focused on material possessions and material wealth and very little on "the treasures of the heart (love, friendship, connections with others)" as we call them.
It has become a global marketing brand selling "reality changing" to millions.
I have heard people say things like "oh I am sorry your mother has cancer and is dying. I think she really should look at changing her thoughts. She should just watch this film and then she can heal herself."
The concepts and central focus of their books and the film is the notion that all you have to do is change your thoughts and then your situation will change.
We all know that that isn't how life works. Look at the people of Gaza or any war torn country. If they just all, en masse, thought about Israel vanishing or stopping the bombing, would that mean it would? Of course not.
What I don't like about the secret is using wonderful Buddhist thought and philosophy wrapped up in a very selfish ulterior motive. Money Making. Bookselling. Product and merchandise.
There are literally hundreds, of books, gratitude stones, The Secret note pads, The Power Book, The Gratitude and Power Book, the list is endless.
Not only is much of what they say, in the secret, highly inaccurate, it has misappropriated many scientific terms and used them in ways that are totally out of the correct context, and make no sense at all in the confines of physics or quantum physics.
In Fact the woman JZ Knight who funded much of the film, has been shown to be a complete charlatan. {you can read all about her here}
Their primary reason for being is to cash in on peoples misfortunes to make the author and her investors millions. By drawing people in with the notion that they can have the life they want, as much money as they want, simply by changing their thoughts.
In a way I would say that The Secret alludes to a very small part of what is going on with us as human beings how we can influence the world, but what goes on in Buddhist Philosophy goes so much deeper.
Please don't buy in to. Your life is so much more, so much more complex and intricate.
Our sufferings and our trouble are part of who we are, we should not try to see them as something we can simply expunge by changing our thoughts.
WIth Buddhist philosophy we can learn to soar like an eagle, despite the pain, the hurt, the war, we can learn to channel our minds and have the courage to bring change to our world, wars or no wars.
We have the power to make a difference, and it is all within us.

"There is no secret, thats just what they want you to believe."
Awaken! To the vast power you possess as an individual through your actions in this life!
