The trouble with listening to other people and doing what your told...

Here in the UK I keep getting members say to me. "your activism, your environmentalism, your veganism, your desire to change things, your desire to help the refugees, do that on an individual level, the SGI only exists to teach people how to practice Nichiren Buddhism. We do not do things like that as an organisation, they are too polarising."

But I think this is wrong and I will demonstrate why, by sharing with you a list, of SGI initiatives that have happend with SGI members acting as a collective to help others:

The Peoples Decade - Setup by Daisaku Ikeda as a platform for people to speak out against Nuclear Weapons (http://www.peoplesdecade.org/)

The Amazon Ecological Conservation Center - Setup to educate and inspire people in the area about the importance of conservation (http://www.sgiquarterly.org/news2011Apr-3.html)

Soka Universities across the world, educational institutions founded on the principles of Nichiren's Buddhism. Places of value creation. (http://www.soka.edu/)

2013 Supporting The Robert Levy Foundation - A foundation setup in North London to support youth, after the young Robert Levy was stabbed to death in the streets in North London, SGI members gathered to support the event. (http://www.robertlevyfoundation.org/)

The Human Revolution Orchestra - A collection of SGI members representing SGI on world Peace day at the international Jazz Festival in London 2014/2015 (http://www.humanrevolutionorchestra.co.uk/)

Victory Over Violence - The Soka Gakkai youth of America created this campaign in 1999 as a way to help identify and root out violence in thei own lives and their community as a wey to support the United Nations "Culture of Peace" Initiative. (http://www.vov.com/)

Soka Gakkai Malaysia - On January 1, in response to the major floods that hit the East coast of Malaysia from mid-December 2014, Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) held special prayer meetings at 25 venues across the country. The floods, described as the worst the area has seen in 30 years, rendered more than 100,000 people homeless, as well as causing power outages and shortages of food and water.

SGI Nepal - Together as an organisation members worked together In response to the April 25 and May 12 earthquakes in Nepal, SGI-Nepal members have been carrying out relief activities both in the capital city of Kathmandu and surrounding areas.

On June 25, SGI and ACT Alliance co-organized a side event titled "The Role of Faith Based Organizations in Disaster Resilience" at the 6th Asian Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) held from June 22-26 in Bangkok, Thailand. AMCDRR was organized by the Royal Thai Government and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR).

I could go on and on the list is endless...

These big issues matter, they matter to me, and they matter to the future of this planet, and the future of our children and our children children.

We are the society for creating value, a global movement of peace, education and culture.

We are not just another religious organisation.

Only if we ACT together can we transform this world.

As Victor Hugo once said "Nothing is stronger than an idea whose time has come."

And that time is now.

Do not let anyone tell you, especially a leader that you CAN NOT do something that you KNOW in your heart will help other people, and transform this world.

There are members out there who will join forces with you to make the change you want to see.

The trouble with the world today is people are afraid, afraid to act, afraid to speak out, afraid to take ACTION.

It's time to take action...

Don't accept the world as it is by Peter Tatchell

An interview with People of London

“Don’t accept the world as it is. Dream of what the world could be - and then help make it happen.”

We are light. Light we are.

We are light. Light we are.

Consider the idea that we are energy or light in a focused form. Ponder for a moment the idea that there is a sea of matter all around us in the form of fields and waves.

You are I are one within that field. Each of us a point on a wave of possibility and probability.

When the Buddha reached his point of enlightenment, he was everywhere and everything in a single moment.

Like a particle in superposition.

Watch the film below, I had to watch it a few times to absorb it.

Prepare to expand your imagination...

A month later on March 15, 2011 the "Official" Wayseer Manifesto video was released going viral. The video has been translated into many languages. To date, two of the many uploads of this video to YouTube have received over 6 million views combined.

Activism

Save Ben & Jerry's In 1999 Garret LoPorto (23) started "Save Ben & Jerry's," a protest to stop Ben & Jerry's (a then independent model for socially responsible business) from being forcefully acquired by the multinational conglomerateUnilever. LoPorto attracted international attention and press coverage for this protest using a viral campaign of internet publicity stunts. This included LoPorto putting Ben & Jerry's up for sale on eBay, with a record reserve price of $250 million. The eBay listing went viral.
The Occupy Movement In September 2011 LoPorto joined Occupy Wall Street in New York City,[9] and on 96.9 FM Conservative Talk Radio was described as one of the organisers of Occupy Boston[10] Oath Keepers however released a statement confirming there is "no alliance" between themselves and wayseers.org, LoPorto's organisation. They also affirm that Loporto was only a "volunteer", and he has since been removed from that position.

Climate Change Name

Since 1954, the World Meteorological Organization has been naming extreme storms after people. But we propose a new naming system. One that names extreme storms caused by climate change, after the policy makers who deny climate change and obstruct climate policy. If you agree, sign the petition at
http://www.climatenamechange.org/#/petition

The science is clear: global warming is happening faster than ever and humans are responsible. This is a major problem because global warming destabilizes the delicate balance that makes life on this planet possible. Just a few degrees in temperature can completely change the world as we know it, and threaten the lives of millions of people around the world.

2012 was the hottest year on record in the United States, and 10 of the past 15 years have been the hottest on record globally. And as the planet heats up, our weather is becoming more extreme and less predictable. Scientists are expecting a 3.6 degree Fahrenheit increase in global ocean temperature in the next century. Globally, sea levels have already risen 4 inches since 1950, and in the North East U.S., the sea level has risen four times faster than the global average.

The combination of hotter oceans and higher sea levels is the perfect recipe for extreme storms. Storms will likely become more intense as seawater warms. In fact, insurance companies say severe weather of all kinds is on the rise with expensive results. Meanwhile, climate change is steadily raising sea levels, which makes storms more devastating to the cities they hit.

ACT TODAY.

The injustices of the world can be stopped if we stand together against them.

A rather depressing one for you, but something you can do is put your name to this petition and stand with over a million other voices to say that this is wrong. I had to double check the sources a few times to make sure what I was reading was infact true. I share this in total disbelief:

15-year-old rape-survivor sentenced to be whipped 100 times in public in Maldives!
The girl's stepfather is accused of raping her for years and murdering the baby she bore. Now the court says she must be flogged for “sex outside marriage”! President Waheed of the Maldives is already feeling global pressure on this, and we can force him to save this girl and change the law to spare other victims this cruel fate. This is how we can end the War on Women – by standing up every time an outrage like this happens.
Let's build a million-strong petition to President Waheed this week, then threaten the islands' reputation through hard-hitting ads in travel magazines and online until he steps in to save her and abolish this outrageous law. Sign now and share this with everyone to get us to a million!

Here is the Petition: http://avaaz.org/en/maldives_global/
